Retail Hero: Not everyone can have a full Human Resource department. In place of these departments you need to have a system that can better manage your employees. Business can't grow without good employees and it all starts with better communication. You need to motivate and inform your employees, utilizing a system they learn quickly and are comfortable using. You also need to keep your honest employees honest and have safeguards to avoid problems before they exist or uncover the problems before they get out of hand. You should be able to use your system as a tool for better retailing efficiency. In your "dream system" you must have:
- Time clock to control employees attendance
- Employee specific discounts and limits
- Commission, bonus calculating mechanism
- Multiple sales reps on one transaction
- Cash register level notification for safe depositing
- "Blind closeout" capability
- Tracking quotes and sales transactions
- Authorization on manipulating with prices, discounts and taxes
- Security levels to allow or deny access to selected sections of the system to the employees
- Tracking of "No Sales" and cash drawer opening/closing
- Prompting to the employee on return limits
- Monthly or even more often low hassle routine inventory count
Even the smallest stores can benefit from proper employee clocking. But the biggest problem you may have is losing cash. The money may be going right out of your door and you don't know it. We've all heard stories of the employee who had been stealing for months or years simply because there were no controls or reviews. Systems today have the capability of being a security guard and your HR administration. For you success you should use such a system.
