Loyalty Tip #8:
Use Basket Rewards To Systematically Increase Average
Sale Size
There
is a way to increase your average sale size using Hero Points, and it involves a feature called “Basket
Rewards.”
In Basket Collection mode, points are not collected for
every dollar spent, but instead for pre-set basket
amounts that can be set to any dollar value that you
want. One proven technique to increase your sales is to
find out what your average sale value is, and make your
basket size just slightly higher than that.
Therefore when a customer buys an average cash value,
they’ll see that they’re “just a few bucks away” from
collecting points. This may be enough to convince the
customer to buy just a little bit more in order to reap
their reward. Now multiply “just a few bucks” by the
amount of customers that you see in a day, and the
result is quite substantial.
This model has proven to work specifically well in
grocery shopping (by the way, that’s where the name
“Basket” is coming from), and is particularly popular in
Australia where the “basket”-type of customer loyalty
system is the standard for groceries.
