Q: Is Dynamics POS 2009 a new version of RMS?
A: Not really, it is a parralel product rather than an upgrade. Dynamics RMS still have unique application in a multi-store environment (POS does not have multi-store capability)
Q: Is Dynamics POS 2009 cheaper than Dynamics RMS?
A: No, it is actually 15% more expensive. The previous version of Microsoft POS software called Dynamics POS 2.0 (discontinued) was about half the standard Dynamics RMS license price. But Microsoft has decided to raise the prices for Dynamics POS 2009.
Q: Can a single store RMS user upgrade to Dynamics POS?
A: Yes, if you are current on RMS service plan you are eligibile to receive the installation keys for Dynamics POS 2009 with no additional charge. INquire with you VAR or Retail Hero for more information.
Q: Is there upgrade path from Dynamics RMS 2.0 to Dynamics POS?
A: Yes, you can migrate all your data, including trsnaction history and even receipts from Dynamics RMS 2.0 SP3 to Dynamics POS 2009. But not the other way around! You may be unable to migrate from the earlier versions of RMS either!
Q: I am using some custom add-ons for Dynamics RMS. Will I be able to use them with Dynamics POS 2009?
A: Most likely not, unless the developer provides you with an updated version of the add-on designed specifically for POS 2009.
Q: What are the Retail Hero's plans regarding supporting and developing add-ons for Dynamics POS 2009?
A: We offer full support for Dynamics POS 2009 and are in the process of updating our most popular add-ons (such as Hero Points, Q-Rewards etc.) to the Dynamics POS 2009 platform.
Q: What is the future of the Dynamics RMS/POS poroducts?
A: According to Microsoft road map for POS products, they are working on so called "POS 4.0" project which is the next iteration of Dynamics POS. The new product will have multi-store functionality. When it is released (suppsedly in 2010-2011), the current version of Dynamics RMS 2.0 will be retired and no longer supported. Before that time comes the RMS customers are able to purchase additional RMS licenses and receive full support from Microsoft and RMS VARs. Contact your VAR or Retail Hero for more information.
